Recreational Kickball Leagues Begin in June
Informational Meeting Planned for April 28
Adult recreational kickball leagues are back by popular demand! On April 28 at 7PM at the Senior Center, 69 S. Water Street, an informational meeting will be held for co-rec, adult kickball leagues. Each team interested in participating in the league should have a team representative at the meeting. League games will begin in early June and will take place on Friday evenings at Dawson Field. The cost per team is $100 and includes up to 20 Janesville resident players. Please note, leagues are unofficiated. The cost for non-resident players is $13 per team member. Team rosters must be finalized and registration fees must be paid by May 16. Individuals interested in playing on a team are welcome to leave their contact information and playing level with Leisure Services. For questions, call 755-3030.
Movie in the Park and Park Clean Up Rescheduled for June
The Movie in the Park event and the Fourth Ward Park clean up, planned for May 2 and 3, have been rescheduled for June 13 and 14. More details will be provided as the events draw near. For questions, please contact Kelly Lee at 755-3052.
Historic Preservation Expo and Seminar Planned for May 3
On May 3, the City of Janesville Historic Commission will sponsor a Historic Preservation Expo and Seminar for community members interested in learning more about how to appropriately rehabilitate historic buildings or how to research their buildings. This free event will take place from 9AM – 1PM at Olde Towne Mall (20 South Main Street) in Janesville.
During this expo, attendees will have the opportunity to listen to various seminars, visit exhibitor booths and have historic preservation questions answered. Refreshments will be available. The seminar schedule for the day is as follows:

5th Annual Family Team Treasure Hunt Scheduled for May 3
On May 3 at Traxler Park from 3-6PM, Leisure Services will sponsor the 5th Annual Family Team Treasure Hunt. Teams will receive clues that will direct them around Janesville. At each spot, teams will complete fun and challenging activities to earn clues and points. This is a great event designed for the entire family! Age is not an issue; everyone involved will enjoy this crazy, competitive and fun event!
Teams may include up to five family members and must include at least one child. There may be no more than two adults on each team and teams must provide their own transportation. Prizes will be awarded for the best dressed team and the most points earned. Refreshments will be waiting for teams as they arrive at the final site! The treasure chest for the winning team will include a certificate for a one-night stay at the Kalahari Resort, a Papa John’s pizza coupon and season passes for the Ice Skating Center and Rockport Pool.

Look West and 4th Ward Neighborhood Plan Visioning Workshop Planned for May 7
On May 7, the City of Janesville and the Neighborhood Leadership Team will conduct a visioning session to discuss the vision and critical issues for the Look West and 4th Ward neighborhoods. This session will take place at 6:30PM at Wilson School (465 Rockport Road).
The City of Janesville recently launched a planning process to guide future improvements and redevelopment in the Look West and 4th Ward neighborhoods. In order to gather input and guidance from neighborhood residents, the City will host a public visioning workshop. During this session a variety of topics will be discussed, including crime & safety, traffic problems, landlord/tenant relations, housing conditions, parks & recreation programs and historic preservation.
All neighborhood residents are encouraged to attend because this will be an opportunity to provide the City and its planning consultants with ideas and concerns about issues and the future of the neighborhoods. The workshop will involve a series of thought-provoking, interactive exercises where residents will work with each other to create ideas and provide input that will define the direction of the plan and articulate the community’s goals for these historic neighborhoods.

Spring Yard Waste Collection May 5-9
The City will collect grass, leaves, and garden debris placed in containers or bags and bundled brush on the same day as your regular trash pick-up the week of May 5-9. Please place your yard waste a few feet apart from your regular trash. Items should be placed at the curb no later than 7AM on your scheduled collection day.
Yard waste containers or bags and bundled brush should be no heavier than 50 pounds and no longer than four feet in length and twelve inches in diameter. Using biodegradable paper bags or reusable containers such as plastic trash cans is recommended. Plastic bags can be used but please leave them untied at the curb.
City code prohibits the burning of trash, garden debris and other yard wastes within the city limits. For more information contact City Services at 755-3110.
Child Safety Seat Inspection Event Planned for May 8
The Janesville Fire Department will hold a car seat inspection event on May 8. This program will take place at Fire Station #5 (1414 Newport Avenue) from 2-6PM.
Seven other inspection events have also been planned for 2008:

• July 9, 2-6PM
• August 13, 8-Noon
• September 10, 2-6PM
• October 23, 8-Noon
• November 12, 2-6PM
• December 10, 8-Noon
The purpose of this program is to assist parents in protecting the lives of Janesville’s youngest residents by providing certified child safety seat technicians who will inspect, instruct and correct improperly installed child safety seats. During the event, several technicians from the Janesville Fire and Police Departments will be available to inspect child safety seats. Each inspection takes approximately 30 minutes and is free of charge; however, donations are accepted. The donations will be used to fund the operating costs of the inspection program. The Fire Department also has safety seats available. If a safety seat is found to be unsafe during an inspection, parents may choose to conveniently obtain a new safety seat from the Fire Department. Make My Mom & Me Over Scheduled for May 10
Leisure Services and the Academy of Cosmetology will hold “Make My Mom & Me Over” on Saturday, May 10 from 1-3PM and 3:30-5:30PM at the Academy of Cosmetology (2310 W. Court St.). Stylists from the Academy will provide participants with a cool “up-do” hairstyle and a relaxing manicure. Games will be played for prizes and plenty of snacks will be on hand. This fun “girls only” event is open to pairs of adults and children (ages 5-12). The cost is $40 per pair. The 1-3PM session is full, openings are still available for the 3:30-5:30PM session. Former Hardee’s on Court Street Will Be Demolished
The Community Development Department recently issued conditional approval for building plans that will allow for the demolition and redevelopment of the vacant Hardees’s restaurant, located at 1930 West Court Street in Janesville. A new auto parts store will then be built on the property.
City staff has been working with representatives from O’Reilly Automotive for approximately four months on plans for the redevelopment of the 31,500 square foot (.72 acre) site located at the northeast corner of the intersection at Court and Arch Streets.
The redevelopment of the site will include demolition of the existing building, removal of all existing pavement and construction of a new 7,800 square feet building. The building will be constructed of brick and block material with a portion of the storefront being glass and stucco materials.
The specific construction timeline will be determined shortly as the contractor has not requested the final building and demolition permits. Staff anticipates the permits will be issued in the near future. For questions, contact Gale Price, Manager of Building and Development Services, at 755-3097.
Upcoming Events at the Janesville Senior Center
A variety of activities and events will be taking place at the Janesville Senior Center (69 S. Water Street) in the upcoming weeks. For questions or to register, please call the Senior Center at 755-3040.
A trip is planned on June 18 to The White Pines Dinner Theatre to see the musical comedy “Double or Nothing.” Four singer-comedians mix it up with musical duets and classic comedy duos. The show features skits and routines made famous by teams. The cost is $48 per person and includes travel, a buffet lunch and the show. Payment and registration are due by May 14.
Beginning and intermediate bridge lessons will be offered by Ray Benton beginning on Friday, May 2 from 10AM-Noon and will continue for a minimum of 6 sessions. The course will involve viewing video tapes by respected bridge educator Audrey Grant. This course is an excellent refresher for people who have been playing bridge for some time. Participants will need a spiral notebook and pencils. There is no charge for instruction, but registration is required prior to the event.
The Mill Pond Pantry will provide lunch on Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays from 11AM-12:30PM. The food will be healthy, tasty, and prepared right at the Senior Center kitchen. The menu is available at the reception desk and will include soups, salads, wraps, fruits, breads, and cookies. You can purchase a complete lunch for $4.50 or individual items separately at reasonable prices. Reservations are not necessary.
“The Blue Velvet Dinner and Dance Party” featuring the music of the Blue Velvet Big Band will take place on May 20 with a meal at 5PM and the music beginning at 6PM. Adults of any age are welcome to attend and enjoy dancing or listening to this very talented group. The cost of the event is $6 per person and includes the meal. Registration is required and is due by May 16.
The AARP Driver Safety Program will be offered on May 19 and May 20 from 8:30AM – 12:30PM. This program helps mature drivers age 50+ improve their skills and prevent traffic accidents. This 8 hour refresher course is taught in two 4 hour time blocks over a 2 day period. The cost of the class is $10 per person and is due the first day of the class. Enrollment is limited to 20 people and registration is required prior to the class.
Anyone interested in playing Canasta is urged to come join the fun at noon every Wednesday at the Senior Center. There is no cost or registration required for this event. Instruction is available on request.

SAFE Training Available for High School Students
The Janesville Police Department and the Janesville Public School District are joining in a colloborative effort to offer a two-hour "SAFE" (Self-Defense, Awareness, Familiarization and Exchange) program for female high school students, female parents/guardians and female staff members.
The National Self-Defense Institute developed the "SAFE" program to increase women's awareness and familiarization with dangerous situations. The "SAFE" program is nationally acclaimed for its self defense training. The instructors are Janesville police officers that have attended the National Self-Defense Institute instructor's course. The program helps to increase a woman's sense of awareness, confidence and resiliency when facing an unsafe situation.
The training will be offered several times per month during the 2008/2009 school year at different Janesville schools after normal school hours. Grant funds obtained through the Citizen Corp committee will be used to purchase workbooks for the training. The training will be free for female students that attend.
The Janesville Police Department has "SAFE" trained over 800 women in the last five years. The Police Department is excited about this additional partnership with the Janesville Public School District and the opportunity to share "SAFE" messages with students and adults.

JTS “Rack it and Rocket” Bike on Bus Program Adds More Bike Racks in 2008
With the winter freeze finally over and bicycles beginning to hit the streets again, JTS reminds citizens that there has never been a better time to “Rack it and Rocket” by putting their bikes on JTS buses! Want to ride your bike to work or school but worry about what to do if it rains when you’re ready to go home? “Rack it and Rocket” with a dry ride home on a climate controlled JTS bus! Want to enjoy Janesville’s great trail system with your kids but worry about getting back from the far side of town? “Rack it and Rocket” from just about anywhere on the Janesville trail system on JTS!
Over the winter, JTS placed additional bike rack equipped buses into service. Now, 76% JTS buses are now bike rack equipped. Each rack can hold up to two bikes and is designed for easy loading and unloading. Bike racks are available on a first-come, first-served basis on all regular transit routes. Passengers pay the regular fare and their bike rides for free!
For safety’s sake and to speed service, individuals interested in using the bike racks must be certified. Bus drivers are prohibited from leaving the drivers seat to assist in loading or unloading bikes. Residents can call the Transit System office at 755-3150 to make an appointment for certification training. Certification training is free, takes approximately 10 minutes to complete, and is available Monday – Saturday during normal business hours of the JTS office. For convenience, JTS has bikes available for trainees to practice loading and unloading. In addition, instruction will be available at many local and municipal events throughout the year.
To be eligible for certification, individuals must be at least 11 years old and physically able to lift and load their bicycles on the racks, which are about 2 feet off the ground. The racks are equipped for two-wheeled bikes only, and any equipment not permanently mounted on the bike, such as water bottles, pumps, and other loose items should be removed before the bike is loaded onto the rack.
This summer, JTS invites citizens to save gas money when they “Rack it and Rocket” to work, school and recreation on the bus! The bike rack brochure is available on the City’s website (www.ci.janesville.wi.us), JTS buses, the Downtown Transfer Center, the Library or other public buildings. So Many Colors @ Your Library
The whole family can sing, move and share ideas with Clare Norelle on Friday, April 18 at 7 p.m. at Hedberg Public Library, 316 S. Main St. Clare will combine two of her wildly popular programs: Songs in Two Languages and So Many Colors. This fun, participatory performance encourages learning new languages and respecting different cultures. No registration is necessary for this free family program. The racks are equipped for two-wheeled bikes only, and any equipment not permanently mounted on the bike, such as water bottles, pumps, and other loose items should be removed before the bike is loaded onto the rack.
This summer, JTS invites citizens to save gas money when they “Rack it and Rocket” to work, school and recreation on the bus! Informational Meeting Planned for April 10
Leisure Services offers adult leagues for competitive and recreational players at Traxler Park and Riverside Park. An informational meeting for all interested teams and players is scheduled for April 10 at 7PM at the Senior Center, 69 S. Water Street. The cost per team is $140 and includes six resident players. Additional resident team members cost $10 per player. Non-resident team members cost $13 per player. The price for substitutes is $6; this cost will be waived if a team representative attends the informational meeting. In the aftermath of a winter with record-setting snowfall, the School District of Janesville will hold school on two Saturdays to replace the days lost as the result of inclement weather. To facilitate attendance at school on these two Saturdays, April 12 and May 3, 2008, the School District has asked the Janesville Transit System to provide expanded public bus service on those dates.
The School District is reimbursing the City of Janesville for the cost of providing this additional service. Under Federal Transit Administration regulations, this service will be open at all times to the general public, will operate in accordance with published schedules, and the regular fares will be charged.
On April 12 and May 3 JTS will make the following modifications to its regular Saturday schedule to assist Janesville families and students in attending the school replacement days:
o JTS Regular Routes will begin service at 7:15AM on these dates, rather than the normal Saturday start time of 8:45AM. This will allow adequate time for persons traveling from home to the schools for the 8:15AM Middle School and 8:30AM High School start times. School dismissal occurs during normal Saturday operating hours, so no service changes are necessary for that purpose.
o The following Extra Service Routes will operate on April 12 and May 3:
o Ontario–Alpine/Wuthering Hills Combination
o Atwood-Holmes/East Milwaukee Special Combination
o South West Special
o Northwest/West Court Special Combination
Extra Service Routes are open to anyone wishing to ride and the regular fare ($1.25) will be charged. Schedules will be modified to meet the changes in the school opening and closing times on these Saturdays.

The Home Buyer’s Workshop is a series of classes geared toward those who have never owned a home and may be wondering what it takes to become a homeowner. Whether you are thinking about buying a home in the near or distant future, these classes will give you the information you need to make a wise purchase decision. Topics discussed include: the benefits of homeownership, household budgeting and credit, the benefits of a home inspection, writing an offer to purchase, the mortgage application process, property taxes, and local down payment and closing cost assistance programs.

A team of assessors from the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group (WILEAG) will complete an assessment of all aspects of the Janesville Police Department’s policy and procedures, management, operation, and support services in April. This assessment is part of the Department’s re-accreditation efforts and is completed to ensure the Janesville Police Department meets the Board’s state-of-the-art standards.
As part of the on-site assessment, employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session on April 16 at 7PM. The session will be held in the City Council Chambers on the fourth floor of the Municipal Building, 18 North Jackson Street.
If an individual cannot speak at the public information session but would like to provide comments to the assessment team, he/she may do so by telephone or in writing. The public may call 373-3436 on April 16 from 8AM – 5PM to share comments. Written comments should be addressed to:

The Team Leader for the Janesville Police Department On-Site Assessment is Chief Ann Wellens from South Milwaukee Police Department. She said the assessment team is composed of law enforcement practitioners from agencies similar to Janesville. The assessors will review written material, interview individuals, and visit offices and the places where compliance can be witnessed.
The assessors are: Chief Ann Wellens, team leader, Administrative Assistant Ann Wissing from Muskego Police Department and Captain Tim Kriz (ret.), West Allis Police Department. Once the Board’s assessors complete their review of the agency, they report back to the full board, which will then decide if the agency is to be granted accredited status, Chief Wellens stated.
“The Janesville Police Department has to comply with 233 standards in order to gain accredited status. The accreditation process has necessitated a complete review of all department policies, procedures, and operations. The process challenged the department to seek excellence in providing service to the community.” explains Deputy Chief Steve Kopp.

Spring Yard Waste Collection May 5-9
The City will collect grass, leaves, and garden debris placed in containers or bags and bundled brush on the same day as your regular trash pick-up the week of May 5-9. Please place your yard waste a few feet apart from your regular trash. Items should be placed at the curb no later than 7AM on your scheduled collection day.
Yard waste containers or bags and bundled brush should be no heavier than 50 pounds and no longer than four feet in length and twelve inches in diameter. Using biodegradable paper bags or reusable containers such as plastic trash cans is recommended. Plastic bags can be used but please leave them untied at the curb.
City code prohibits the burning of trash, garden debris and other yard wastes within the city limits. For more information contact City Services at 755-3110.

Child Safety Seat Inspection Event Planned for April 10
The Janesville Fire Department will hold a car seat inspection event on April 10. This program will take place at Fire Station #5 (1414 Newport Avenue) from 8AM-Noon. Two other inspection events have also been planned:
• May 8, 2-6PM
• June 12, 8AM-Noon
The purpose of this program is to assist parents in protecting the lives of Janesville’s youngest residents by providing certified child safety seat technicians who will inspect, instruct and correct improperly installed child safety seats. During the event, several technicians from the Janesville Fire and Police Departments will be available to inspect child safety seats. Each inspection takes approximately 30 minutes and is free of charge; however, donations are accepted. The donations will be used to fund the operating costs of the inspection program. The Fire Department also has safety seats available. If a safety seat is found to be unsafe during an inspection, parents may choose to conveniently obtain a new safety seat from the Fire Department. S.A.F.E Training Scheduled for April 29
On April 29 from 5:30 – 7:30PM the Janesville Police Department will conduct safety training for women who are interested in learning more about personal protection. This event will take place at the Mercy Center at Mercy Hospital (1000 Mineral Point) in Janesville. If you are unable to attend this session, feel free to contact the Police Department to inquire about future training sessions.
What is “S.A.F.E.” Training? S.A.F.E stands for Self defense, Awareness, Familiarization and Exchange. The program is taught by police officers and is designed to educate women on how to protect themselves from crime by introducing them to physical training methods. Emerald Ash Borer Survey Results Available
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) recently completed a survey of ash trees in Rock County including the Janesville area. No emerald ash borers (EAB) were found in Rock County during the survey.
During the survey process, state employees cut down live ash trees on public property and stripped the tree bark looking for the borer larvae. EAB has been found as close as Kane County, Illinois. Leisure Services estimates 25,000 ash trees are present in Janesville and all of them are endangered by this insect.
If you suspect an infestation of emerald ash borer (EAB), please contact the DNR immediately by calling 1-800-462-2803 or e-mailing DATCPEmeraldAshBorer@wisconsin.gov.
How can you prevent EAB from coming to Janesville? Please consider these outdoor tips:
1. Never carry firewood around with you. Buy it locally and burn it all at your campsite. This is one of the primary ways that insects relocate and start new populations.
2. Become familiar with the look and activity timing of the emerald ash borer. There are other metallic green/brown beetles that may, at first glance, look like the emerald ash borer. The “D”- shaped exit hole is very distinctive.
3. If planting trees, plant non-ash species until further research provides viable treatments or resistant tree varieties.

Officer Chad Sullivan Recognized by the Elks Lodge
Officer Chad Sullivan was recently recognized by the Janesville Elks Lodge #254. This service club presented Officer Sullivan with its “Elks Distinguished Citizenship Award”. This award is presented to one individual each year that demonstrates outstanding and meritorious services to humanity. Specifically, Officer Sullivan was recognized for his involvement with the club’s drug awareness programs and community activities. This award was presented to Officer Sullivan as a surprise on March 28 at the Elks Lodge Annual Dinner.

Minnesota Crime Wave @ Your Library
"Minnesota Crime Wave," a dangerously humorous trio of prolific mystery authors from Minnesota, will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at Hedberg Public Library, 316 S. Main St., Janesville. Writers Carl "Sailor" Brookins, William Kent "Iceman" Krueger, and Ellen "Murder Most Fowl" Hart will appear in gangster costumes, present a panel discussion about mysteries, and answer questions from the audience about mysteries and mystery writing. The program is free and open to the public as part of the Nancy Parker Library Programs for Adults series funded by the Nancy B. Parker Endowment.
Among them, the authors have written 35 crime novels and received more than 23 national and regional awards. William Kent Krueger is the author of the Cork O'Connor mystery series set in the great Northwoods of Minnesota. His recent novels are Thunder Bay and Mercy Falls. His awards include the Minnesota Book Award, Friends of American Writers Prize, and Anthony Award for Best Novel.
Before he became a mystery writer and reviewer, Carl Brookins was a freelance photographer, public TV program director, cable TV administrator, and university counselor. He is a member of Mystery Writers of America, Private Eye Writers of America, and Sisters in Crime. With his wife and friends, he has sailed in many locations across the world. He writes a sailing adventure series featuring Michael Tanner and Mary Whitney and the Sean NMI Sean private investigator series.
Ellen Hart is a three-time winner of the Minnesota Book Award for Best Popular Fiction and five-time winner of the Lambda Literary Award for best lesbian mystery. For the last 11 years, she has taught an introductory mystery-writing course through The Loft Literary Center. Her newest novels are No Reservations Required, Night Vision, and The Mortal Groove. April Exhibits @ Your Library
Watercolor paintings by Carla Day-Johnson are on view this month at the Hedberg Public Library, 316 S. Main St., Janesville. The artist, who lives on a farm in Rock Township, draws her inspiration from nature: wild and farm animals, visitors to her bluebird trail, and flowers in her large gardens. Day-Johnson states, "My father always said if you have a bit of land, you can survive no matter what else happens." The exhibit includes "Woodland Series," a group of 24 paintings depicting the artist's childhood surroundings in northern Wisconsin in different seasons and from different vantage points. Day-Johnson graduated from UW-Stevens Point with a bachelor's degree in interior design and art. She has taught painting and drawing at Blackhawk Technical College since 1989 and formerly served on the art committee at Hedberg Public Library.
Also on display at the library is a collection of unique kitchen implements owned by Maureen Birchfield of Janesville. Exhibit items represent the 1920s, '30s, '40s, '50s and '60s, and include potato baking nails, "The incredible cheese machine," Rocky Mountain bean spoon, and kraut pounder, among many others. Child Safety Seat Inspection Event Planned for April 10
The Janesville Fire Department will hold a car seat inspection event on April 10. This program will take place at Fire Station #5 (1414 Newport Avenue) from 8AM-Noon. Two other inspection events have also been planned:
• May 8, 2-6PM
• June 12, 8AM-Noon
The purpose of this program is to assist parents in protecting the lives of Janesville’s youngest residents by providing certified child safety seat technicians who will inspect, instruct and correct improperly installed child safety seats. During the event, several technicians from the Janesville Fire and Police Departments will be available to inspect child safety seats. Each inspection takes approximately 30 minutes and is free of charge; however, donations are accepted. The donations will be used to fund the operating costs of the inspection program. The Fire Department also has safety seats available. If a safety seat is found to be unsafe during an inspection, parents may choose to conveniently obtain a new safety seat from the Fire Department. Adult Sand Volleyball Leagues Begin in May
Informational Meeting Planned for April 10
Leisure Services offers adult leagues for competitive and recreational players at Traxler Park and Riverside Park. An informational meeting for all interested teams and players is scheduled for April 10 at 7PM at the Senior Center, 69 S. Water Street. The cost per team is $140 and includes six resident players. Additional resident team members cost $10 per player. Non-resident team members cost $13 per player. The price for substitutes is $6; this cost will be waived if a team representative attends the informational meeting. Team rosters must be finalized and registration fees must be paid by April 28; league play begins May 19. For questions, please contact Shelley Hansel at 755-3030.
JTS Provides Service on School Make-Up Saturdays
In the aftermath of a winter with record-setting snowfall, the School District of Janesville will hold school on two Saturdays to replace the days lost as the result of inclement weather. To facilitate attendance at school on these two Saturdays, April 12 and May 3, 2008, the School District has asked the Janesville Transit System to provide expanded public bus service on those dates.
The School District is reimbursing the City of Janesville for the cost of providing this additional service. Under Federal Transit Administration regulations, this service will be open at all times to the general public, will operate in accordance with published schedules, and the regular fares will be charged.
On April 12 and May 3 JTS will make the following modifications to its regular Saturday schedule to assist Janesville families and students in attending the school replacement days:
o JTS Regular Routes will begin service at 7:15AM on these dates, rather than the normal Saturday start time of 8:45AM. This will allow adequate time for persons traveling from home to the schools for the 8:15AM Middle School and 8:30AM High School start times. School dismissal occurs during normal Saturday operating hours, so no service changes are necessary for that purpose.
o The following Extra Service Routes will operate on April 12 and May 3:
o Ontario–Alpine/Wuthering Hills Combination
o Atwood-Holmes/East Milwaukee Special Combination
o South West Special
o Northwest/West Court Special Combination
Extra Service Routes are open to anyone wishing to ride and the regular fare ($1.25) will be charged. Schedules will be modified to meet the changes in the school opening and closing times on these Saturdays.

Home Buyer’s Workshop Offered in April
The Home Buyer’s Workshop is a series of classes geared toward those who have never owned a home and may be wondering what it takes to become a homeowner. Whether you are thinking about buying a home in the near or distant future, these classes will give you the information you need to make a wise purchase decision. Topics discussed include: the benefits of homeownership, household budgeting and credit, the benefits of a home inspection, writing an offer to purchase, the mortgage application process, property taxes, and local down payment and closing cost assistance programs.
The next series of the Home Buyer’s workshop is scheduled for Tuesdays, April 15, 22, 29 and May 6 from 6:30 – 8:30PM. The classes are held at the City of Janesville Municipal Building, located at 18 N. Jackson Street. Participants must attend all classes to earn a certificate of completion.
The workshop is sponsored by Anchor Bank, Associated Bank, Blackhawk Community Credit Union, Commercial Bank, Johnson Bank, M&I Bank, Rock County Planning & Development, and classes are taught by Community Action, Inc. Police Accreditation Assessment Planned for April; Public Information Session Planned for April 16
A team of assessors from the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group (WILEAG) will complete an assessment of all aspects of the Janesville Police Department’s policy and procedures, management, operation, and support services in April. This assessment is part of the Department’s re-accreditation efforts and is completed to ensure the Janesville Police Department meets the Board’s state-of-the-art standards.
As part of the on-site assessment, employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session on April 16 at 7PM. The session will be held in the City Council Chambers on the fourth floor of the Municipal Building, 18 North Jackson Street.
If an individual cannot speak at the public information session but would like to provide comments to the assessment team, he/she may do so by telephone or in writing. The public may call 373-3436 on April 16 from 8AM – 5PM to share comments. Written comments should be addressed to:

Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with WILEAG’s standards. A copy of the standards is available at the Janesville Police Department (100 N. Jackson Street).
This accreditation is a voluntary process and is a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence. The Janesville Police Department was first accredited in May 2000. Accreditation is now for three years, during which the agency must submit annual reports attesting continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.
The Team Leader for the Janesville Police Department On-Site Assessment is Chief Ann Wellens from South Milwaukee Police Department. She said the assessment team is composed of law enforcement practitioners from agencies similar to Janesville. The assessors will review written material, interview individuals, and visit offices and the places where compliance can be witnessed.
The assessors are: Chief Ann Wellens, team leader, Administrative Assistant Ann Wissing from Muskego Police Department and Captain Tim Kriz (ret.), West Allis Police Department. Once the Board’s assessors complete their review of the agency, they report back to the full board, which will then decide if the agency is to be granted accredited status, Chief Wellens stated.
“The Janesville Police Department has to comply with 233 standards in order to gain accredited status. The accreditation process has necessitated a complete review of all department policies, procedures, and operations. The process challenged the department to seek excellence in providing service to the community.” explains Deputy Chief Steve Kopp.

S.A.F.E Training Scheduled for April 29
On April 29 from 5:30 – 7:30PM the Janesville Police Department will conduct safety training for women who are interested in learning more about personal protection. What is “S.A.F.E.” Training? S.A.F.E stands for Self defense, Awareness, Familiarization and Exchange. Sidewalk Notices Will be Sent March 21
On March 21, 2008 the City of Janesville will send sidewalk repair notices to approximately 1,500 citizens. These notices address complaints dating to Year 2000. Inspections in 2007 confirmed whether the complaint was a repairable defect or met the standards established by the City of Janesville. Information will be provided to each property owner about his or her sidewalk and whether it is in violation or not. Notices of sidewalks requiring repair will include a copy of the inspection report with photos of the violations, estimates of the cost of repair, and information about how to make the repair.
Owners have the option of the City performing the work and billing the cost upon completion or doing it themselves. A self-addressed-stamped-envelope is included for citizens to reply as to whether they will complete the repair or have the City do it. Owners will be given until August 1, 2008 to make repairs. The City will be bidding a contract and using the 2008 construction season to make repairs for those citizens who desire to take advantage of City construction administration. Citizens who have questions about their specific notice may contact the Engineering Division at 755-3160. Media inquiries may be forwarded to Jack Messer, Director of Public Works, at 755-3160.

Adult Softball Leagues Begin in May; Manager’s Meeting Scheduled for March 24
Adult summer softball leagues will start the week of May 11. The manager’s meeting will be held on March 24 at 7PM at the Senior Center (69 S. Water St). 2008 Street Sweeping Schedule Announced
First Round Begins March 24
The City of Janesville annually performs street sweeping on all City streets. City crews sweep residential areas five times per year and crews sweep downtown and main arterial streets six times per year.
The first round of residential street sweeping is scheduled to begin on March 24 and is expected to be completed about April 18. Street sweeping in residential areas begins in the northwest portion of the city and moves through the City in a counter-clockwise direction, generally finishing in the northeast portion of the City.

The City schedules two days to complete a street sweeping cycle for downtown and main arterial streets. The next cycle of downtown and arterial street sweeping is scheduled to begin March 27 and be completed the following day. On the first day of the cycle, City crews typically sweep downtown parking lots and the following main arterial streets: West Court Street, Rockport Road, Crosby Avenue, Center Avenue, Delavan Drive, Beloit Avenue, East Racine Street and Ruger Avenue.
On the second day of the cycle, City crews sweep the downtown streets and the following main arterial streets: East Milwaukee Street, Mount Zion Avenue, Milton Avenue, Parker Drive and Black Bridge Road. Traxler Park and Veterans Memorial Bridge are often swept on the second day when necessary.

Pet Licenses Now On Sale
The City of Janesville would like to remind Janesville pet owners that a city license is required for all dogs and cats residing within the city limits.
All cats and dogs, 5 months and older, are required to be licensed. A valid rabies vaccination certificate is required for licensing. A license can be obtained from two Municipal Building locations, the Clerk-Treasurer’s Office or Leisure Services (18 N. Jackson Street). Licenses are $5 for animals that are spayed or neutered (proof required) and $10 for animals that have not been spayed or neutered. License renewals may be purchased until March 31, 2008; otherwise, a $5 late fee will be charged. The fine for keeping an unlicensed dog or cat in the city limits is $249. (Municipal Code 06.04.020)
When a dog or cat is reclaimed or adopted at the Rock County Humane Society, the owner is provided written notification that they have thirty days to obtain a city license. The cost to taxpayers for care of animals at the Rock County Humane Society exceeds $90,000 per year. In 2007, the City of Janesville issued 4,393 dog licenses and 903 cat licenses. The burden on all city taxpayers would be reduced if animal owners would comply with licensing requirements.
In 2007, the Janesville Police Department began taking a more enforcement-oriented stance towards owners of unlicensed animals and other animal-related ordinances. Enforcement begins with those city residents who have recently adopted or reclaimed an animal at the Rock County Humane Society and who have failed to vaccinate and license the animal after thirty days. This strategy was put in place because previous efforts to educate and warn citizens of the requirement and importance of licensing dogs and cats did not result in compliance with licensing requirements.
The City of Janesville and the Rock County Humane Society urge Janesville dog and cat owners to be responsible by complying with the laws on rabies vaccinations, licensing, leashes, and litter clean up. For questions about animal licenses, please call 755-3073.
Mercy Hospital Parking Structure/Medical Office Building Informational Meeting Planned for March 26
Mercy Hospital will hold an informational meeting on March 26 at 6:30PM at the Mercy Center Conference Meeting Room 1128A (1000 Mineral Point Avenue) regarding a proposed parking structure and medical office building. This building would be located adjacent to the Mercy Regional Cancer Center near the corner of Mineral Point Avenue and Franklin Street. Animal Licenses & Paw Print Park Tags Sold at Mounds on March 29
On Saturday, March 29 from 9AM–1PM, Leisure Services will sell 2008 animal licenses at Mounds Pet Food Warehouse (1725 Lodge Drive). To purchase an animal license, pet owners must live within the City of Janesville and must provide a valid rabies vaccination certificate. Proof their pet has been spayed or neutered is required for those owners wishing to receive the discounted rate. Leisure Services, along with Paw Print Park committee members, will also sell 2008 permit tags and Paw Print Park clothing, including shirts and hats, on March 29 at Mounds. The candidates for the Janesville City Council Election are: Kevin Bishop, Tom McDonald, Yuri D. Rashkin, Kathy Voskuil, Kelly O'Brien and George Mark (in ballot order). There are three seats open on the Council; therefore, electors may vote for no more than THREE candidates.
The election will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2008, and polls are open from 7AM – 8PM. If you are a new resident, you may register to vote at the City Clerk-Treasurer’s Office in the Municipal Building (18 N. Jackson Street) or at your voting ward on Election Day. In order to register, you must be a United States Citizen, 18 years of age or older on Election Day, and a Janesville resident for ten or more days. Your driver’s license or state ID card number (if you have never been issued a driver’s license or state ID card number, then your Social Security number may be used) and identification that shows your current address is required for registration. If you have recently moved, please contact us to update your information.

Compost Site and Demolition Landfill to Reopen April 1
The compost facility and demolition landfill will re-open on April 1. It may open earlier if weather permits. Hours through October are Monday & Thursday 8AM – 7PM, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday 8AM – 3PM and Saturday 8AM – 5PM. The compost facility will offer free, unscreened compost to Janesville residents. Public Input Session Regarding City Manager Attributes Scheduled for April 2
The Janesville City Council recently began the process to recruit a new City Manager as a result of Steve Sheiffer's recent announcement of his intention to retire in the fall of 2008. As part of this process, a public input session is planned for April 2 to obtain feedback from residents. During this session, all members of the Janesville community are invited to share the attributes they would like to see in Janesville’s next city manager.
This session will take place from 6:30-8PM in the Municipal Building Training Room #416 (fourth floor, 18 N. Jackson Street). All residents are welcome to attend this session and no appointments are necessary. This session will be conducted by PAR Group President Ms. Heidi Voorhees, Janesville’s contracted recruitment consultant.

New Paw Print Park ‘Friends’ Opportunity Available
Become a ‘Friend’ Today!
Leisure Services and the Paw Print Park Committee recently began providing an opportunity for individuals to become a ‘Friend’ of Paw Print Park, Janesville’s fenced dog park located at Prairie Knoll Park on Oakhill Avenue near the Hwy 11 bypass. The purpose of becoming a ‘friend’ is to provide support and funding for future park improvements.
The fee to become a ‘friend’ is $30 and includes an annual park permit tag and a Paw Print Park logo t-shirt. ‘Friends’ will be able to choose the color and size of their t-shirt. To become a ‘friend’, visit Leisure Services at the Municipal Building (18 N. Jackson Street) during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 7:30AM – 4:30PM). ‘Friends’ will need to have a current dog license to receive the park permit tag. Upcoming Events at the Janesville Senior Center
A variety of activities and events will be taking place at the Janesville Senior Center (69 S. Water Street) in the upcoming weeks. For questions or to register, please call the Senior Center at 755-3040.
A trip to The Theater at the Center in Munster, Indiana is planned for May 1 to see the musical “Rockne of Notre Dame.” The production celebrates the life of the “winningest” football coach in history to the ragtime rhythms of the last century. The cost is $60 per person and includes travel, the show, and dinner at the Old Country Buffet. Payment and registration are due by April 4.
Persons who enjoy square dancing are encouraged to come and dance on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from 1-3PM. Mainstream calls will be given, and singles and couples are welcome. There is no charge for this event.
A beginning quilting class, instructed by Myrtle Ballmer, is presently being held on Tuesday mornings at 9AM. New persons who wish to learn the skills involved in making patchwork quilts are welcome to attend. There is no charge for instruction; students provide the materials for their projects.
The Mill Pond Pantry will provide lunch on Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays from 11AM-12:30PM. The food will be healthy, tasty, and prepared right at the Senior Center kitchen. The menu is available at the reception desk and will include soups, salads, wraps, fruits, breads, and the cookie of the week. You can purchase a complete lunch for $4.50 or individual items at reasonable prices. Reservations are not necessary.
A presentation on radio-control modeling will be given by Pat Ryder on April 2 at 1PM in the Conference Room. Pat is interested in starting a model-building group at the Senior Center.
A Spring Fling Potluck and Dance Party featuring the music of the band “Wild Rose” will take place on April 16. The potluck will begin at 5:30PM and the music will begin at 6:30PM. Please bring a hot dish, salad, or dessert. Tableware and beverages will be provided. The cost of the event is $4.50 per person.

Sidewalk Notices Will be Sent March 21
On March 21, 2008 the City of Janesville will send sidewalk repair notices to approximately 1,500 citizens. These notices address complaints dating to Year 2000. Inspections in 2007 confirmed whether the complaint was a repairable defect or met the standards established by the City of Janesville. Information will be provided to each property owner about his or her sidewalk and whether it is in violation or not. Notices of sidewalks requiring repair will include a copy of the inspection report with photos of the violations, estimates of the cost of repair, and information about how to make the repair.
Owners have the option of the City performing the work and billing the cost upon completion or doing it themselves. A self-addressed-stamped-envelope is included for citizens to reply as to whether they will complete the repair or have the City do it. Owners will be given until August 1, 2008 to make repairs. The City will be bidding a contract and using the 2008 construction season to make repairs for those citizens who desire to take advantage of City construction administration. Enforcement begins with those city residents who have recently adopted or reclaimed an animal at the Rock County Humane Society and who have failed to vaccinate and license the animal after thirty days. This strategy was put in place because previous efforts to educate and warn citizens of the requirement and importance of licensing dogs and cats did not result in compliance with licensing requirements.
The City of Janesville and the Rock County Humane Society urge Janesville dog and cat owners to be responsible by complying with the laws on rabies vaccinations, licensing, leashes, and litter clean up. For questions about animal licenses, please call 755-3073.
Mercy Hospital Parking Structure/Medical Office Building Informational Meeting Planned for March 26
Mercy Hospital will hold an informational meeting on March 26 at 6:30PM at the Mercy Center Conference Meeting Room 1128A (1000 Mineral Point Avenue) regarding a proposed parking structure and medical office building. This building would be located adjacent to the Mercy Regional Cancer Center near the corner of Mineral Point Avenue and Franklin Street. Animal Licenses & Paw Print Park Tags Sold at Mounds on March 29
On Saturday, March 29 from 9AM–1PM, Leisure Services will sell 2008 animal licenses at Mounds Pet Food Warehouse (1725 Lodge Drive). To purchase an animal license, pet owners must live within the City of Janesville and must provide a valid rabies vaccination certificate. Proof their pet has been spayed or neutered is required for those owners wishing to receive the discounted rate. Leisure Services, along with Paw Print Park committee members, will also sell 2008 permit tags and Paw Print Park clothing, including shirts and hats, on March 29 at Mounds. April 1, 2008 Election Information
The candidates for the Janesville City Council Election are: Kevin Bishop, Tom McDonald, Yuri D. Rashkin, Kathy Voskuil, Kelly O'Brien and George Mark (in ballot order). There are three seats open on the Council; therefore, electors may vote for no more than THREE candidates.
The election will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2008, and polls are open from 7AM – 8PM. If you are a new resident, you may register to vote at the City Clerk-Treasurer’s Office in the Municipal Building (18 N. Jackson Street) or at your voting ward on Election Day. In order to register, you must be a United States Citizen, 18 years of age or older on Election Day, and a Janesville resident for ten or more days. Your driver’s license or state ID card number (if you have never been issued a driver’s license or state ID card number, then your Social Security number may be used) and identification that shows your current address is required for registration. If you have recently moved, please contact us to update your information.

Compost Site and Demolition Landfill to Reopen April 1
The compost facility and demolition landfill will re-open on April 1. It may open earlier if weather permits. Hours through October are Monday & Thursday 8AM – 7PM, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday 8AM – 3PM and Saturday 8AM – 5PM. The compost facility will offer free, unscreened compost to Janesville residents. Public Input Session Regarding City Manager Attributes Scheduled for April 2
The Janesville City Council recently began the process to recruit a new City Manager as a result of Steve Sheiffer's recent announcement of his intention to retire in the fall of 2008. As part of this process, a public input session is planned for April 2 to obtain feedback from residents. During this session, all members of the Janesville community are invited to share the attributes they would like to see in Janesville’s next city manager.
This session will take place from 6:30-8PM in the Municipal Building Training Room #416 (fourth floor, 18 N. Jackson Street). All residents are welcome to attend this session and no appointments are necessary. This session will be conducted by PAR Group President Ms. Heidi Voorhees, Janesville’s contracted recruitment consultant.

In addition to this input session, Ms. Voorhees will also obtain feedback from City staff, City union representatives and various business and community groups. Ms. Voorhees will then report the input received to the City Council.

New Paw Print Park ‘Friends’ Opportunity Available
Become a ‘Friend’ Today!
Leisure Services and the Paw Print Park Committee recently began providing an opportunity for individuals to become a ‘Friend’ of Paw Print Park, Janesville’s fenced dog park located at Prairie Knoll Park on Oakhill Avenue near the Hwy 11 bypass. The purpose of becoming a ‘friend’ is to provide support and funding for future park improvements.
The fee to become a ‘friend’ is $30 and includes an annual park permit tag and a Paw Print Park logo t-shirt. ‘Friends’ will be able to choose the color and size of their t-shirt. To become a ‘friend’, visit Leisure Services at the Municipal Building (18 N. Jackson Street) during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 7:30AM – 4:30PM). ‘Friends’ will need to have a current dog license to receive the park permit tag. Upcoming Events at the Janesville Senior Center

A trip to The Theater at the Center in Munster, Indiana is planned for May 1 to see the musical “Rockne of Notre Dame.” The production celebrates the life of the “winningest” football coach in history to the ragtime rhythms of the last century. The cost is $60 per person and includes travel, the show, and dinner at the Old Country Buffet. Payment and registration are due by April 4.
Persons who enjoy square dancing are encouraged to come and dance on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from 1-3PM. Mainstream calls will be given, and singles and couples are welcome. There is no charge for this event.
A beginning quilting class, instructed by Myrtle Ballmer, is presently being held on Tuesday mornings at 9AM. New persons who wish to learn the skills involved in making patchwork quilts are welcome to attend. There is no charge for instruction; students provide the materials for their projects.
The Mill Pond Pantry will provide lunch on Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays from 11AM-12:30PM. The food will be healthy, tasty, and prepared right at the Senior Center kitchen. The menu is available at the reception desk and will include soups, salads, wraps, fruits, breads, and the cookie of the week. You can purchase a complete lunch for $4.50 or individual items at reasonable prices. Reservations are not necessary.
A presentation on radio-control modeling will be given by Pat Ryder on April 2 at 1PM in the Conference Room. Pat is interested in starting a model-building group at the Senior Center.
A Spring Fling Potluck and Dance Party featuring the music of the band “Wild Rose” will take place on April 16. The potluck will begin at 5:30PM and the music will begin at 6:30PM. Please bring a hot dish, salad, or dessert. Tableware and beverages will be provided. The cost of the event is $4.50 per person.

The Home Buyer’s Workshop is a series of classes geared toward those who have never owned a home and may be wondering what it takes to become a homeowner. Whether you are thinking about buying a home in the near or distant future, these classes will give you the information you need to make a wise purchase decision. Topics discussed include: the benefits of homeownership, household budgeting and credit, the benefits of a home inspection, writing an offer to purchase, the mortgage application process, property taxes, and local down payment and closing cost assistance programs.
The next series of the Home Buyer’s workshop is scheduled for Saturdays, March 15 and 22 from 9AM - 1PM. The classes are held at the City of Janesville Municipal Building, located at 18 N. Jackson Street. Participants must attend all classes to earn a certificate of completion.

Child Safety Seat Inspection Event Planned for March 18
The Janesville Fire Department will hold a car seat inspection event on March 18. This program will take place at Fire Station #5 (1414 Newport Avenue) from 2-6PM.
Four other inspection events have also been planned:

• May 8, 2-6PM
• June 12, 8AM-Noon
The purpose of this program is to assist parents in protecting the lives of Janesville’s youngest residents by providing certified child safety seat technicians who will inspect, instruct and correct improperly installed child safety seats. During the event, several technicians from the Janesville Fire and Police Departments will be available to inspect child safety seats. Each inspection takes approximately 30 minutes and is free of charge; however, donations are accepted. The donations will be used to fund the operating costs of the inspection program. The Fire Department also has safety seats available. If a safety seat is found to be unsafe during an inspection, parents may choose to conveniently obtain a new safety seat from the Fire Department. S.A.F.E Training Scheduled for March 27
On March 27 from 5:30 – 7:30PM the Janesville Police Department will conduct safety training for women who are interested in learning more about personal protection. This event will take place at the Mercy Center at Mercy Hospital (1000 Mineral Point) in Janesville. If you are unable to attend this session, feel free to contact the Police Department to inquire about future training sessions.
What is “S.A.F.E.” Training? S.A.F.E stands for Self defense, Awareness, Familiarization and Exchange. The program is taught by police officers and is designed to educate women on how to protect themselves from crime by introducing them to physical training methods. 2007 Tree City USA Award
The National Arbor Day Foundation has awarded the City of Janesville with a Tree City USA and Growth Award for 2007. This award is presented annually to those communities that demonstrate an active urban forestry program to include education, tree planting and tree care. This is the fourth consecutive year that Janesville has received this award. The Janesville Shade tree Advisory Committee (JSTAC) has been instrumental in educating the community about the environmental and economic benefits of trees. JSTAC recently completed a City-wide inventory of terrace trees in Janesville. The results of this survey will be available in the future. For questions, please call Leisure Services at 755-3030.

The Janesville Fire Department will hold a car seat inspection event on March 18. This program will take place at Fire Station #5 (1414 Newport Avenue) from 2-6PM.
Four other inspection events have also been planned:
• April 10, 8AM-Noon
• May 8, 2-6PM
• June 12, 8AM-Noon
The purpose of this program is to assist parents in protecting the lives of Janesville’s youngest residents by providing certified child safety seat technicians who will inspect, instruct and correct improperly installed child safety seats. During the event, several technicians from the Janesville Fire and Police Departments will be available to inspect child safety seats. Each inspection takes approximately 30 minutes and is free of charge; however, donations are accepted. The donations will be used to fund the operating costs of the inspection program. The Fire Department also has safety seats available. If a safety seat is found to be unsafe during an inspection, parents may choose to conveniently obtain a new safety seat from the Fire Department. All City of Janesville facilities will be open and all services will be provided as usual on March 21 including trash and recycling collection and JTS bus service. The library will be closed Easter Sunday, March 23.
S.A.F.E Training Scheduled for March 27
On March 27 from 5:30 – 7:30PM the Janesville Police Department will conduct safety training for women who are interested in learning more about personal protection. This event will take place at the Mercy Center at Mercy Hospital (1000 Mineral Point) in Janesville. If you are unable to attend this session, feel free to contact the Police Department to inquire about future training sessions.
What is “S.A.F.E.” Training? S.A.F.E stands for Self defense, Awareness, Familiarization and Exchange. The program is taught by police officers and is designed to educate women on how to protect themselves from crime by introducing them to physical training methods. 2007 Tree City USA Award
The National Arbor Day Foundation has awarded the City of Janesville with a Tree City USA and Growth Award for 2007. This award is presented annually to those communities that demonstrate an active urban forestry program to include education, tree planting and tree care. This is the fourth consecutive year that Janesville has received this award. The Janesville Shade tree Advisory Committee (JSTAC) has been instrumental in educating the community about the environmental and economic benefits of trees. JSTAC recently completed a City-wide inventory of terrace trees in Janesville. The results of this survey will be available in the future. For questions, please call Leisure Services at 755-3030.

PS2 Gaming Day @ Your Library

Create a Picture Book @ Your Library

Community Action, Inc. Hosts Midwest Premiere of Brooklyn at The Armory
JANESVILLE – On Saturday, May 17, 2008, Community Action, Inc. of Rock and Walworth Counties will be hosting its first ever dinner theatre fundraiser at The Armory in Janesville. The evening will feature a delicious dinner from The Armory’s elegant and diverse menu, the Midwest Premiere of the Broadway smash hit Brooklyn, a Cabaret Auction featuring the very talented cast, a chance to win a walk on role in a future Armory show and an opportunity to meet and interact with the cast. Seating begins at 6 PM.
This is the first time Brooklyn has ever been performed in the Midwest! From the heart of Brooklyn comes a band of street corner singers and story-tellers. For some spare change and a few moments of your time, they will shed their homeless skin, and before your very eyes, become larger than life characters where they discover the true meaning of family, fame and fate. With a mix of pop and soul, they set their stage and tell a wondrous sidewalk fairytale about a young girl searching for fame and the father she never knew.
Community Action is thrilled to partner with The Armory for this event. Originally built in 1930, The Armory is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. After several years of being vacant, the exterior was restored to retain its historical significance, and the interior combines modern décor and elegance with original elements making the Armory the area’s most exciting entertainment venue.
Please join us for this wonderfully unique event! Tickets are $100 each and are sold exclusively through Community Action. All proceeds will benefit Community Action programs in Rock and Walworth Counties.
